Scavenger Hunt, Governor's Island, Fireworks, OH MY! or The NYC Heat Wave
Catching up from this weekend, still! Boy did we do a lot to update. After waking up from our first night in the New School dorms, we got breakfast before splitting off into new groups for a Scavenger Hunt around New York City! We quickly made new friends as we scattered across the city to try to see Madison Square Garden, find a marquee for one of the many Broadway shows, and even catch a spotting of the legendary Naked Cowboy.
We returned around dinner time, exhausted and sweaty. New York City had been hit with one its worst heat waves and we were looking for a relaxing way to spend our night. Luckily, two double-decker buses showed up to take us on a whirlwind tour of the Big Apple. Watch out for low branches! It was all worth it for an amazing view of Times Square at night and even a sneak peek of our Sunday, 4th of July destination.
4th of July started with plenty of festivities as we all met on the 2nd floor terrace patio for patriotic smoothies (strawberry, banana and blueberry). Who knew banana smoothies could taste so good? Then we got ready to enjoy the weather with a trip to Governor's Island. We explored the beauty of the island and even got a breathtaking view of the Statue of Liberty. We were on a tight schedule because we had fireworks on Pier 54! A crowded excursion through NYPD Blue was all worth it with an exciting lightshow over the water at 9:30PM. Sharing this experience as a group was amazing and allowed us to bond before and during the fireworks over home town experiences, our day at Governor's Island, future internships and even history trivia. It was a long hot weekend in the sun but we survived with plenty of sunscreen and water. Onto our internship visits and the coveted first day excitement!! Stay tuned for our next update from NYC.
